About Swordhouse
At Swordhouse, we believe every mission-based nonprofit deserves the tools to thrive. Since 2020, we’ve supported nearly a dozen organizations in strengthening communications and fundraising. Along the way, we uncovered a larger need: nonprofits lack the digital infrastructure to manage their movements with clarity and sustainability. That discovery shifted our vision from one-to-one consulting to building a sector-wide Movement Management Tool, shaped directly by nonprofit leader feedback.
Purpose
We’re recruiting Survey Designers to build the first-ever diagnostic for mission-based nonprofits to evaluate their “movement type.” This 40-question assessment will be the on-ramp to Swordhouse’s Movement Management Tool and directly connect to its core features:
Journey Mapping — place an organization on a clear movement pathway
Collaborative Idea Hub — assess how ideas are generated and vetted
Momentum Tracking — gauge the consistency of progress over time
Journey Trends Dashboard — compare practices to sector patterns
Narrative Score & Ecosystem Map — align messaging and locate an org within the broader network
Survey Designer Objectives & Responsibilities
Translate research findings into measurable indicators for each feature
Build and pilot the 40-question tool (e.g., Typeform, Qualtrics)
Develop scoring frameworks that tie back to the State of the Movement Report
Test usability with nonprofit leaders and iterate based on feedback
Skills You’ll Gain
Monitoring & evaluation (M&E) design
Survey building and piloting (Typeform, Qualtrics, etc.)
Human-centered research and instrument validation
Data interpretation and scoring systems
Ideal Applicant
Student in nonprofit management, sociology, public policy, statistics, design, or related fields
Experience with research methods, survey-building, or program evaluation
Strong writing, organization, and analytical skills; curious and collaborative
